My Favorite Travel Bags and Gadgets for Traveling Across India

Travel bags and useful gadgets packed for traveling across India
The travel bags and gadgets I personally use while exploring different parts of India

Traveling across India has taught me many things over the years. From crowded railway stations and overnight bus journeys to long road trips and airport layovers, every trip feels different. One thing I slowly understood is that carrying the right travel gear makes the journey much more comfortable.

In my early trips, I used to over pack a lot. Half the items stayed untouched inside the bag. After traveling to different places across India, I started carrying only the things that are actually useful on the road.

Here are some of the travel bags and gadgets I personally use during my journeys.

Backpack That Keeps Everything Organized

My backpack is probably the most important part of my travel setup.

I usually prefer a medium-sized backpack since it is much easier to carry through crowded railway stations, buses, autos, and busy streets across India.

A comfortable backpack makes long travel days less tiring, especially when there is a lot of walking involved.

I always look for features like good back support, strong zippers, separate compartments, and water-resistant material to protect my belongings during unexpected weather changes.

I rarely carry my laptop while traveling because it takes up extra space, and constant movement during travel can sometimes damage it. But whenever I do carry it, I make sure my backpack has enough padded space to keep the laptop safe, secure, and protected from rain or accidental bumps.

Having the right backpack has made my trips smoother and more comfortable over the years.

Small Extra Bags That Keep Me Organized

Along with my main backpack, I usually carry either a small sling bag, a tote bag, or sometimes both depending on my travel plan and the kind of trip I am taking.

These smaller bags help me keep important items within easy reach without opening my larger backpack again and again while exploring markets, tourist spots, beaches, or busy local streets.

In my sling bag, I normally keep essentials like my mobile phone, wallet, earphones, power bank, ID cards, and travel tickets.

I also find tote bags very useful because they offer extra space for quick-access items such as snacks, water bottles, shopping items, or even an extra pair of shoes during longer journeys.

Carrying these smaller bags makes traveling across India much more comfortable and convenient, especially during busy travel days with constant movement.

Power Bank for Long Journeys

A power bank has become one of my most important travel gadgets because phone batteries drain very quickly during travel.

Continuous map usage, long train journeys, overnight bus rides, photography, and internet usage can easily leave the phone without charge.

Travel can also be very unpredictable at times, especially during train and bus journeys where charging points may not work properly, remain occupied by other passengers, or sometimes may not be available at all.

During remote travel, trekking trips, or long hours spent outside hotels and towns, finding a charging point can become difficult. Because of this, carrying a fully charged power bank has become extremely important for me.

It helps me stay connected, use maps when needed, keep my tickets and bookings accessible on my phone, and avoid unnecessary stress during the journey.

Earphones That Make Travel Peaceful

Another thing I always carry during travel is a good pair of earphones because transport hubs, railway stations, buses, and public places in India can get very noisy at times.

Earphones help me relax and enjoy long journeys more comfortably, especially while listening to music, watching movies, editing videos, or taking calls during travel.

Although many people prefer wireless earphones these days, I usually carry wired earphones because they do not require separate charging.

During long journeys, remembering to charge another device can sometimes become inconvenient.

I also keep my wired earphones inside a small pouch meant specifically for them, which helps avoid the common problem of wires getting tangled inside the bag. It keeps things organized and makes the earphones easy to access whenever needed.

Phone Stand That Helps More Than Expected

One small gadget that turned out to be surprisingly useful during travel is a foldable mobile stand. It barely takes any space in my bag, but I end up using it very often during trips.

It helps while watching videos in hotel rooms, attending video calls, editing photos, or reading articles comfortably without holding the phone for a long time.

Sometimes the smallest travel accessories become the most practical ones.

Reusable Water Bottle

I also try to carry a reusable water bottle on most of my trips.

Buying plastic water bottles again and again during travel can become expensive, especially during long journeys across India.

Carrying my own bottle helps me stay hydrated, save money, and reduce unnecessary plastic waste. One of the biggest advantages is that I can easily refill the bottle at railway stations, home stays, guest houses, hotels, and restaurants instead of purchasing new bottles repeatedly.

During summer travel in India, having water easily available becomes even more important because of the heat, long travel hours, and constant movement from one place to another.

At the same time, I try to be careful about where I refill or buy drinking water because every place in India can be different when it comes to water quality.

If I do not find clean and reliable water for refilling, only then do I buy bottled water. Even while purchasing bottled water, I stay alert because in some places there are chances of bottles being refilled from tap water or unreliable sources and sold again.

Water-related health problems can affect a trip very quickly, so I feel it is always important to stay cautious and pay attention to drinking water while traveling.

Organizer Pouches for Chargers and Cables

Earlier, my backpack used to become very messy during travel because chargers, USB cables, memory cards, adapters, medicines, toiletries, and important papers would end up scattered everywhere inside the bag.

Finding small items quickly during train or bus journeys often became frustrating. To make things more organized, I started using small organizer pouches, and it has made a huge difference while packing and traveling.

Now I keep separate pouches for electronic items, toiletries, medicines, and important documents, which makes everything easier to access and manage.

Packing feels much cleaner, more organized, and far less stressful now, especially during long trips with frequent movement.

Portable Tripod for Photos and Videos

I enjoy capturing travel photos and short videos during my trips, especially while exploring new places across India.

Since I often travel solo, carrying a lightweight and compact tripod has become very useful for me. It helps me take better landscape photos, group pictures, night shots, and small travel video clips without depending on others to hold the camera or phone.

I do not carry large professional equipment during most trips because it adds extra weight and becomes difficult to manage during constant movement.

A simple portable tripod is usually enough for regular travel photography and casual content creation.

Kindle or Tablet for Long Travel Hours

Train delays and long travel hours are quite common during journeys in India, so carrying a Kindle or Tablet helps me use that time more comfortably and productively.

I mostly use it for reading books, watching downloaded movies, planning itineraries, browsing travel blogs, or simply relaxing during overnight train and bus journeys.

It also helps reduce the need to carry physical books, which can take up extra space and add more weight to the backpack.

During long trips, having something lightweight for entertainment and reading makes travel feel much less tiring.

If you're planning your first solo trip, carrying the right travel gear can make your journey much easier and more comfortable. I have also shared some practical tips in my post on how to start solo traveling in India without feeling scared.

Things I Learned After Traveling More

Over time, I realized that travel becomes easier when the luggage stays simple and practical. Expensive gadgets are not always necessary. What matters more is carrying things that genuinely make the journey smoother.

Every traveler has different habits and needs, but for me, these are the bags and gadgets that have stayed useful across many trips in India.

If you travel often, you probably also have a few items that never leave your backpack.

Travelers looking to pack more efficiently may find this travel essentials checklist useful before their next trip.
