5 Beautiful Beaches Along the Bay of Bengal Coast

Beaches Along the Bay of Bengal Coast
Rushikonda Beach from Kailasagiri in Visakhapatnam

The first thing I started noticing while traveling along the Bay of Bengal coastline was how different each beach felt from the next one. Some were energetic and crowded with activity, while others felt slow, peaceful, and almost untouched.

Over time, a few beaches stayed in my memory more than the others. Not because they were perfect, but because each one gave a different kind of experience.

Marina Beach, Chennai – The Beach That Never Sleeps

Marina Beach was probably one of the busiest beaches I visited along the east coast, but that is exactly what made it memorable.

Evenings here felt full of life. Families walking near the shore, food stalls selling snacks, children playing cricket, and the constant sound of waves created an atmosphere that felt energetic but familiar at the same time.

It was not the kind of beach where you sit in silence for hours. Marina Beach felt more like a part of the city’s daily life.

The long coastline and sea breeze during sunset made those walks enjoyable every single time.

Mahabalipuram Beach – Where History Meets the Sea

Near Mahabalipuram, the beach atmosphere felt completely different. The mix of ancient temples, stone structures, and sea views gave the place a unique character.

Walking near the shore after exploring the historic monuments felt peaceful. Fishermen bringing in boats, waves crashing near old stone walls, and small cafes near the beach created a relaxed coastal vibe.

The mornings here especially felt calm before tourists slowly filled the streets.

Rushikonda Beach, Visakhapatnam – Clean and Refreshing

Rushikonda Beach surprised me with how clean and scenic it looked.

The combination of green hills nearby and blue sea made the beach feel visually different from many others along the Bay of Bengal coastline.

Compared to crowded urban beaches, this place felt more open and refreshing. Sitting near the shore with the cool breeze and watching the waves for hours felt relaxing without needing to do much else.

The drive towards the beach itself added to the experience.

Puri Beach – Full of Energy and Local Culture

Puri Beach felt lively almost all the time.

There was always movement around — local vendors, camel rides, tourists, prayer rituals near the sea, and the smell of street food mixing with salty air.

What I liked most about Puri Beach was that it felt deeply connected to the local culture of Odisha. It was not just about the sea. The beach felt like part of the city’s identity.

Watching sunrise here became one of my favorite memories from the east coast.

Dhanushkodi Beach – Quiet, Remote, and Unforgettable

Among all the beaches I explored, Dhanushkodi Beach probably left the strongest impression on me.

The place felt raw, windy, and almost unreal at times. Surrounded by sea on both sides near the edge of the land, the atmosphere felt completely different from regular tourist beaches.

The abandoned remains of the old town, endless views of water, and quiet surroundings gave the place an emotional feeling that is difficult to explain properly.

It was one of the rare places where silence itself became part of the experience.

Why These Beaches Stayed With Me

What made me fall in love with the Bay of Bengal coastline was not just the beaches themselves, but the variety of experiences they offered.

Some beaches gave me crowded evenings and local food stalls. Others gave me silence, sunrise views, coastal roads, and slow walks near the sea.

Each place had its own mood, and together they made the east coast feel unforgettable.

Even now, when I think about these journeys, I remember the sound of waves, humid sea breeze, long coastal drives, and the feeling of slowing down near the shoreline.
